Re-opening the office is a lot easier with the use of iotspot. One can easily manage the maximum number of occupied desks to adhere to ESD rules. However, there are some things to take into consideration when configuring your iotspot package. As often clients think they only need to configure the desk they want to have available for booking at that time. This article explains three reasons to covering all desks with iotspot is important.
- Aim for consistency between the end user app and the real office.
To ensure proper wayfinding and usability for end users, we should aim to create the least dissonance between the representation in the app and the real office. To illustrate, if only the two ESD available desks are configured of a cluster of four desks. What the user of the app will see are two desks, even though there are four desks in the office. This confuses users and might demotivate them to use the app. We'll explain this issue further with the use of the illustration below.
If the scenario above was reflected on this illustration. One would only see the green dots in the map. Therefore might make the wrong assumption that the full office is open and free. When in reality 50% of the desks are free and the other 50% are blocked. Hence why configuring all desks with iotspots or stickers creates the most pleasant usability for end users.
- Allow for flexibility
If, during the initial configuration, only the ESD available iotspots were configured. There is no room for flexibility of the office occupation. More specifically, a 20% occupation ratio might have been the go-to standard for the initial deployment. But as time passes and the influence of COVID-19 changes, changing this occupation ration to 30-40% is difficult if all "blocked" desks are not in the current system. Hence why full coverage of all desks ensures smooth en flexible up- and downscaling of the occupation based on the influence of COVID-19.
- Configure all at once
This argument does not effect the performance of iotspot, nor does it aid the ESD solution, but it can make a significant difference in the deployment of iotspot and therefore should be taken into account. Only configuring iotspot on the desks used for ESD results in multiple days of deployment and configuration when one decides to upscale their iotspot solution. As we've learned from our experiences, the planning of a deployment is more time consuming then the execution. This is especially the case for our sticker solution. Deploying all desks at once opens all future flexibility for reorganisation, up- and downscaling, and occupation rapports.
